House of Suntory has teamed up with Japanese painter Hiroshi Senju for a unique collector’s edition of the famed Japanese blended whisky. The artist marries the whisky maker’s Japanese craftsmanship with his own vision to create a striking, gallery-worthy package.
For his design, Senju fuses art, nature, and whisky into a seamless whole. He draws on the traditional kokimurasaki palette, ten shades of purple that symbolize nobility, rarity, and masterful craftsmanship.
His technique uses marble powder over which water is poured, allowing the pigments to mingle organically. The method echoes the art of whisky blending. This is fundamental to every bottle of Hibiki.
What whisky is inside this special release?
Inside the package is the well-known Hibiki 21 Year Old. This blend brings together Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Chita whiskies, each matured for 21 years.
Expect notes of blossoms, honeycomb, sandalwood, and apricot, carried by the refined character of Japanese mizunara oak. The finish is long and gently spiced.
