Laphroaig has unveiled a brand-new Càirdeas whisky. The Càirdeas 2026 edition carries a French accent and is available exclusively to Friends of Laphroaig.
With Càirdeas 2026, Laphroaig shows how it can be both unmistakably itself and refreshingly new. The whisky has matured in French oak casks, a wood traditionally used for wine and cognac. This French oak lends structure, depth, and finesse to the powerful character Laphroaig is known for.
What is the Laphroaig Càirdeas 2026 whisky?
Thanks to its maturation, the whisky has taken on a distinctive twist in flavor. The distillery describes this Islay single malt as mahogany in color, oily and chewy in texture, and characteristically peated on the palate with an elegant layer.
Laphroaig’s signature peat smoke, that briny sea air, and earthy intensity are all clearly present. At the same time, the French oak brings a softer, more elegant dimension.
What does Laphroaig Càirdeas 2026 taste like?
The distillery provides detailed tasting notes for this Islay whisky. On the nose, smoky, sweet, and savory aromas intertwine: think peat, leather, and a salty maritime touch that instantly evokes Islay.
On the palate, the single malt is oily, with layers of campfire smoke, vanilla, black licorice, and a bright, fruity lift. The finish carries smoke, sea salt, and subtle sweetness, wrapped in a soft elegance that lingers.
The whisky is bottled at 52.6 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).

Laphroaig Càirdeas 2026 French Oak is a limited-edition release and available exclusively to Friends of Laphroaig. The whisky is available on Laphroaig’s website for 95 euros.
Orders will begin shipping from May 26. Due to high global demand, orders placed between May 20 and May 27 cannot be canceled. Engraving and gift wrapping are also temporarily unavailable during this period.

We have not spoken to the individuals in the video ourselves, nor can we verify who they are. We describe it as a Chinese whisky because it is released by a Chinese distillery. - Let's keep this factually correct. Pernod Ricard DID NOT release a Chinese whisky. Their first output from The Chuan (the name of the distillery in Sichuan, China) wasn't fit for bottling. What they actually bottled was imported Scotch whisky. This is why the product is called "PURE MALT" and not "Chinese Whisky" - because Pure Malt is not a regulated term - this is not a secret. This was exposed about a week after they released it. There were even videos about their own staff on site admitting it was made from imported whisky - which Pernod Ricard got the lawyers onto to get the video pulled.
