The GlenAllachie has unveiled the third edition of its Sinteis Series: a 2014 French Virgin Oak & Oloroso Sherry Cask Matured single malt Scotch whisky. With this limited release, the distillery continues Billy Walker’s focus on cask innovation and maturation, now captured in a new, flavor-driven bottling.
The Sinteis range is all about uniting two characterful oak types in a single whisky. Previous editions paired Chinquapin virgin oak with Pedro Ximénez, and Scottish virgin oak with Oloroso sherry. For this third release, the distillery turns to French Limousin oak alongside classic Oloroso sherry casks.
The new whisky is 11 years old and is positioned as a limited Speyside single malt with depth and balance. This edition also symbolizes the ongoing evolution of The GlenAllachie’s maturation program.

Name and origin of the whisky

The name Sinteis is derived from the Scottish Gaelic word for “synthesis,” a nod to the fusion of two distinct cask types into one harmonious whole. Pronounced “sin-teesh.”
The whisky hails from Speyside, one of Scotland’s most renowned whisky regions. The French virgin oak casks used were crafted from Limousin oak sourced from the forests of central France. This wood is known for its wide grain, allowing more intense interaction between spirit and oak. The casks were medium toasted, medium charred, and air-dried for 15 months before being filled with The GlenAllachie’s new make spirit.
Maturation in these fresh oak casks is complemented by Oloroso sherry casks, famed for imparting notes of dried fruits, dark chocolate, and warming spice. The interplay of both oak styles sits at the heart of this 2014 vintage.
