Just 100 days to go: Aberargie Distillery is about to unveil its inaugural release. The first single malt from the distillery is slated for a March debut. And this isn’t just any first bottling. It marks the return of one of Scotland’s oldest whisky families.

The Morrison family has been woven into Scotch whisky history for more than five generations. After selling Morrison Bowmore in 1994, they stepped away from the stage. That changed two decades later with the founding of Aberargie Distillery.

Located near Perth, the distillery was established in 2017 on a 120-hectare estate. They follow a grain-to-glass philosophy, keeping everything in-house. The first casks were filled that same year and have been quietly maturing ever since.

Counting down to the return of an iconic whisky family

That maturation is nearly complete. As of today, Aberargie Distillery has started a countdown clock marking exactly 100 days. March 2026 will see the launch of the distillery’s first single malt whisky.

What will Aberargie Distillery’s inaugural whisky be?

The whisky is distilled from Golden Promise barley, a variety known for delivering deep flavor, an oily texture, and a full-bodied character. The cask types used for maturation haven’t been revealed yet, but if you look at the image above, there’s a subtle hint to be found.

One thing is certain: this is a flavor-first whisky, with Aberargie’s terroir playing a starring role. The distillery has already released a teaser video that you can watch here.
