A classic reborn
Nikka was forced to withdraw the Miyagikyo 10 Year Old Single Malt whisky from the market ten years ago. The reason was a drastic shortage of stock. In 2015, the Japanese whisky disappeared from the shelves, turning a flavour-bomb into a legend.
Now, the whisky makes a return, hopefully for good this time. Nikka releases the 10-year-old single malt in a very limited edition for now, yet hopes for sustained stocks.
What is the Nikka 10 Year Old Miyagikyo whisky?
The 10 year old whisky scotch harks back to the Yoichi 10 Year Old, which returned a few years ago. The spirit for the whisky is distilled in Sendai and matures in the warehouses, near the distillery.
It was aged in American oak barrels and bourbon casks, giving the whisky a fruity character.
What are the tasting notes of the Nikka 10 Year Old Miyagikyo whisky?
The tasting notes are as follows:
- Nose: Green apple, lemon and a hint of vanilla.
- Palate: Fruity and malty, with distinctive vanilla notes.
- Finish: slightly bitter, but sweet in balance.
The whisky is bottled at 45 percent alcohol by volume (ABV). The bottle has undergone a makeover after a decade, featuring a washi paper label.
Where can I buy this Japanese whisky?
For now, the new Nikka whisky's release is limited. 9,000 bottles will be released in
Japan and 9,000 bottles will be distributed across the rest of the world. That might sound like many, but it is very scarce in truth. The price per bottle is 12,000 Yen (approximately 80 euros).
