Sauternes with a hint of smoke

Ardnamurchan has revamped last year's Sauternes whisky and poured it into a new skin, or rather, a new cask. The distillery is experimenting heavily with wine barrels, and that includes smoky editions too.

With the new Ardnamurchan Sauternes Cask Release Peated whisky, the distillery from the western Highlands takes the next step. This is the first time that peat and Sauternes have been brought together in one bottling from the whisky maker.

The whisky is distilled from peated barley and has subsequently matured in 29 ex bourbon barrels, before being transferred to ex Sauternes barriques.

What are the tasting notes of the Ardnamurchan Sauternes Cask Release Peated whisky?

Nose: Hints of lime leaf, lemon shortbread, and hay are followed by notes of pineapple cake, coconut, crème de peche, and pencil shavings with tobacco.
Palate: Nutmeg with dried ginger, orange blossom, honey, lemon tart, salted cashews, tajine spices, wood, and farmhouse smoke.
Finish: Long and spicy.

The whisky is bottled at 50 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).
