Ardbeg Ten has long been one of Ardbeg’s most beloved Islay whiskies. The combination of intense peat smoke, maritime character, and a surprisingly bright citrus core makes this a staple for fans of robust single malts.
But what happens when you don’t dilute this classic to drinking strength and bottle it straight from the cask? That’s exactly what Ardbeg has done with Ardbeg Ten Cask Strength. The result is a whisky that keeps the familiar Ardbeg Ten profile, but with significantly more power, complexity, and intensity.
A classic in overdrive
With Ardbeg Ten Cask Strength, the Islay distillery shows just how strong the character of its iconic 10-year-old single malt really is. And what better way to prove it than by bottling the whisky at cask strength (61.7% alcohol by volume ABV)? Ardbeg has the answer.
The foundation remains true to the classic Ardbeg Ten. The spirit matures in ex-bourbon barrels of American oak, just like the original. But even before maturation, an unusual choice was made: spirit filled at a much higher strength.
That gives the final whisky even more concentration and intensity than usual. After maturation, it isn’t reduced with water, but bottled directly at cask strength.
The result is an imposing 61.7 percent alcohol, making this one of the most powerful Ardbeg Committee Releases ever.
A wish from Ardbeg fans
Ardbeg Ten Cask Strength isn’t just another new release. This bottling fulfills a long-standing wish among members of the Ardbeg Committee, the distillery’s global fan club.
Ever since a very small Japanese bottling in 2003, fans have been asking for an official cask strength version of Ardbeg Ten. Only now has the distillery granted that wish with a special Committee Release.
It’s a whisky enthusiasts have been waiting more than two decades to see.
Ardbeg Ten’s character at maximum intensity
If you know the regular Ardbeg Ten, you’ll find plenty that’s familiar here. The tasting notes are recognizable, just dialed up a notch.
On the nose, the classic Islay markers leap out: smoke, damp peat, and a salty sea breeze. You’ll also find toffee, citrus, and a gentle vanilla sweetness from the bourbon casks.
The palate of Ardbeg Ten Cask Strength is powerful and layered. Sweet and spicy notes open the show, followed by an intensely smoky core with hints of cinnamon, pepper, and roasted malt.
The finish is long and cooling, with notes of eucalyptus and that lightly medicinal Islay signature.
Limited availability
It’s important to know that Ardbeg Ten Cask Strength is not a permanent addition to the Islay distillery’s range. The whisky appears as the Committee Release for 2026, which means the outturn is limited.
Once the bottles are gone, there won’t be a new batch in stores for the time being. For collectors and Ardbeg fans, this could be a particularly appealing bottle to secure. You’ll find it only
at Ardbeg and at Ardbeg Embassies.
