Every autumn,
Nc’nean unveils a new limited edition whisky in the Quiet Rebels series. The single malt whiskies in this series are not only special for whisky enthusiasts, but also for the Scottish distillery and all its staff. How the fourth whisky in the series gently seduces you is detailed in this review.
The experimental whiskies each have a personal touch from a Quiet Rebel, in other words, an employee of the distillery. This year, it's Amy Stammers' turn, head of sustainability at
Nc’nean.
Nc’nean's New Limited Edition Whisky is the Result of a Unique Barrel Experiment
For her edition of the Quiet Rebels whisky, Stammers chose an expression that was maturing in seldom-used casks. Nc’nean's spirit was aging as part of a barrel experiment in a combination of STR (shaved, toasted, and recharred) ex-red wine barrels, ex-bourbon barrels, and organic Vin Doux Naturel (Maury) wine barrels.
The latter is a fortified wine from France that is made in a similar way to port. The taste of the fortified wine is usually a balanced interplay of sweet, bitter, and sour, with the unfermented sugars remaining in the drink. The whisky also often has a smooth and creamy mouthfeel.
Quiet Rebels Amy, through aging in these barrels, has adopted several elements of this fortified wine, which can be found in the tasting notes. Because the whisky is bottled at 48.5 percent alcohol by volume (ABV), it is accessible and also remains delicious for longer after opening the bottle.

Nc’nean Amy Comes in a Signature and Stylish Bottle
Those looking for this limited edition from Nc’nean at the liquor store won't have to look for long. The container of the Quiet Rebels whisky is quite eye-catching. It's entirely covered with wildflowers and has the distillery name, 'Quiet Rebels,' and 'Amy' boldly written in silver letters on the front.
The aesthetic of the container is very stylish and refers to the organic nature of the distillery. This is similarly reflected in the bottle of Quiet Rebels Amy single malt whisky. It's the characteristic apothecary bottle which hosts all of the
Scottish whisky maker’s products.
The bottle is broad, brown in color with a low neck. It's painted all-around with flowers that enhance its visual delight. The substantial wooden cork on top complements the stylish presentation. But how does this Scottish elixir taste?
Whisky Seduces with Fruit and Hazelnut-Mocha Meringue Pie
As soon as you pour the single malt whisky, a sweet scent immediately wafts by. The whisky entices you with fresh, sweet notes of ripe, yellow fruit such as apricots and peaches on the nose. This is quickly followed by aromas of hazelnut meringue pie with mocha, vanilla, and a subtle tangy undertone of citrus. This is a whisky that almost begs you to take a quick sip with its aroma.
When you finally do, the first sip of the Quiet Rebels expression lays down a creamy yet somewhat sticky layer on palate and tongue.
On this layer, a play of sweet, bitter, and a hint of sour breaks out. It's as if your tongue is a springboard, where sweet tones of four-fruit jam, some bitter citrus notes with ginger, floral tones, orange peel, and vanilla interchange.
As this play slowly comes to an end, a note of oak wood with a hint of toasted bread suddenly appears. After introducing themselves, everything slowly but surely says goodbye in a long and refreshing finish. This last bit is so lasting that you can continue to savor the drink for several minutes afterward.
