These whisky deals offer a big discount on discontinued bottles

There is something extra tempting about a whisky deal when the bottle in question is no longer being made. You are not just getting a bottle for less, you are getting another chance at a release that has already disappeared from the regular line-up.

And there are some seriously interesting ones on sale right now.

The Whisky Exchange currently has a number of discontinued and older releases marked down, including several Ardbegs that have not been seen on shelves for years and a trio of older Aberlour A'Bunadh batches. Some of the discounts are substantial too.

So if you have ever looked at one of these bottles and thought, ‘maybe one day’, this might be that day.

These discontinued whiskies are on sale right now

There is quite a range here, both in price and age. The cheapest bottle starts below 85 pounds, while the biggest saving runs into hundreds.

Plenty of old Ardbeg to choose from

There are bottles from several very different moments in the Ardbeg distillery's recent history. Ardbog was the special Ardbeg Day release back in 2013, while Kildalton followed in 2014. Go back a little further and you get bottles such as Still Young, Renaissance and Airigh Nam Beist.

These are not bottles you simply find sitting next to Ardbeg TEN in every whisky shop anymore.

That does mean they are still expensive, even with the discount. But the reductions make quite a difference. Still Young and Renaissance are both down from 450 pounds to 250 pounds, while Airigh Nam Beist drops from 575 pounds to 350 pounds.

The Ardbeg 2001 released for The Whisky Show 2021 is even half price, dropping from 600 pounds to 300 pounds.

For someone specifically looking for an older Ardbeg release rather than another bottle from the current core range, that suddenly makes things a little more interesting.

Older A'Bunadh batches for under 100 pounds

You do not necessarily have to spend hundreds either. Three older batches of Aberlour A'Bunadh are included, and all 3 now cost less than 100 pounds.

A'Bunadh has been released batch after batch for years, which makes these older editions particularly fun for anyone who likes comparing how the whisky has changed over time. And unlike some of the rare Ardbegs further down the list, you can still pick one up without immediately entering 3-figure territory.

Drinking them or keeping them?

The hardest question with bottles like these is probably: do you keep them or drink them? A discontinued whisky has a habit of becoming increasingly difficult to replace once bottles disappear into collections and open bottles slowly get emptied. On the other hand, whisky was made to be drunk, and there are some fascinating drams in this selection.

Either way, these are a lot more interesting than the usual few pounds off a bottle you can buy almost anywhere. Especially when some of them have just dropped by 150, 200, 300 or even 750 pounds.
