He was quietly teased by global brand ambassador Mark Westmorland in our exclusive interview: the Wolfburn Kylver Sowilo whisky. The distillery has released the 16th and final bottling in the series, and it’s now on sale. So what is Wolfburn Sowilo? Let’s dive in.
Wolfburn has unveiled the sixteenth release in its much-loved Kylver Series: Wolfburn Sowilo. This new limited edition rounds off the series inspired by the ancient Elder Futhark runic alphabet. This rune symbolizes victory, vitality, and that moment when patience is rewarded. According to the distillery, the name is a perfect fit for a whisky that’s been given years to mature quietly before bottling.

A peated finale to a beloved series

What makes this release stand out is that it’s a lightly peated single malt, something loyal Wolfburn fans have been asking for. With this final whisky in the line-up, the distillery gives those fans exactly what they want.
For Sowilo, Wolfburn selected three first-fill American oak bourbon casks from the distillery’s early years. The whisky matured for just over 10 years in the Thurso warehouses, where the gentle influence of time and the coastal climate added extra depth. The distillery says the result is a whisky with subtle peat smoke, sweet nuances, and a beautifully balanced character.

How does Wolfburn Kylver Sowilo taste?

The new Wolfburn whisky comes with detailed tasting notes. As you’ve come to expect from us, we’ve listed them below:
  • Nose: Gentle peat smoke with sea air and smouldering driftwood, followed by orchard fruits, vanilla, honeyed malt, oak, and fresh-cut wood.
  • Palate: Floral notes give way to raisins, ripe pear and subtle citrus. Creamy malt and vanilla are complemented by white pepper, nutmeg, and a soft hint of honey, while the light smoke stays beautifully in balance.
  • Finish: Long, soft, and warming with lingering peat smoke, toasted oak, sweet malt, and a fresh maritime touch.
The whisky is bottled at 53% alcohol by volume (ABV).

Wolfburn Sowilo is a very limited release. Only 730 individually numbered bottles are available. The whisky is non-chill filtered and has retained its natural colour. It’s available via the Wolfburn Distillery website with an RRP of 120 euros per bottle.
