Douglas Laing has launched a versatile blend with
The Epicurean that can go in many directions flavor-wise. With this new Lowland whisky release, there’s a twist we don’t often see: peat.
The Epicurean is getting a Peated Edition with a touch of smoke for those who love it.
This new small-batch whisky also marks a first for The Epicurean. Never before has smoke featured in the blend.
What is The Epicurean Peated Edition whisky?
As always, the new Douglas Laing release is a blend of whiskies from
Scotland’s Lowlands. It brings together various single malt and grain whiskies from this renowned region—but this time with a smoky twist to the recipe.
The Remarkable Regional Malts whisky carries a gentle peat influence. This bright, fresh Lowland dram has a delicate wisp of smoke—nowhere near enough to dominate the palate. Ideal if you’re exploring smoky whiskies but aren’t ready for the full-on peat monsters just yet.
According to brand manager Chloe Wood, this edition is all about balance and evolution.
'We were keen to explore how peat could complement rather than overpower the Lowland style. The result is a Whisky that retains its trademark freshness and citrus lift, now enriched with earthy smoke, warming spice and a refined ashy character.'
- Chloe WoodHow does Douglas Laing’s new Epicurean whisky taste?
The flavor profile of The Epicurean Peated Edition has been carefully detailed by the whisky maker. On the nose, soft, earthy smoke emerges, layered with fresh aromas of thyme, green apple, and toasted barley: an inviting, complex first impression.
On the palate, expect honeyed cereals and malt, followed by warm, smoky accents reminiscent of smoldering charcoal. There’s a gentle peppery kick and a hint of oak. The finish brings drying smoke, subtle ashy tones, and bright notes of lemon zest and vanilla.
The Epicurean Peated Edition is bottled at a natural cask strength of 50.5 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).
