From sherry crescendo to whisky soundtrack

Sometimes when someone says something, it sparks a lightbulb in another's mind. That's exactly what happened when Dr. Rachel Barrie described The Glendronach 12 as a 'sherry crescendo'. Composer Rob Lewis heard this and suddenly had an idea.
He decided to create the soundtrack of whisky in the most literal form imaginable. Lewis got in touch with the distillery, and soon enough, the recordings for The Valley of the Brambles commenced.

What is Valley of the Brambles?

Lewis explains that he translated the feeling he had from Barrie's comment into music. He did this at the distillery, with the sounds of the distillery.
‘I wanted to create something not just for the ears, but for the senses. You can literally hear the distillery in the music.’
The Emmy-winning composer incorporated everything he heard into his music, from birds singing outside, to the crunch of gravel in the warehouse, and the tap on a cask of maturing The Glendronach whisky.
