The angels were thirsty

The pivotal moment arrived in November 2002. That's when a new make spirit was set aside for a whopping 22 years, 3 months, and 25 days. It's not often that Tasmania has such an old whisky tucked away.
The length of time the whisky lie invites a clear disadvantage: angel’s share.
Because when the creators at the distillery opened the cask, it turned out that much of it had disappeared.
This resulted in the American Oak 22 Year Old Single Cask whisky being an extremely limited edition. Only 80 bottles exist.

What does the American Oak 22 Year Old Single Cask whisky taste like?

The real question is: is the whisky right for you? To determine that, one should consult the tasting notes.
  • Nose: Toasted nuts and sweet coconut ice cream. Stone fruits - nectarine and peach - coupled with freshly cut melon. The addition of a drop of water unveils spicy notes of Manuka before freshly sliced watermelon and honeydew come into sight.
  • Palate: Lemon curd, sticky ginger-spiced treacle tart. Hints of heavily toasted and charred oak wood, more peaches laced in syrup. A whiff of fresh, herbaceous Australian eucalyptus trees.
  • Finish: Long and fruity.

What's the cost of the 22-year-old single cask whisky?

The price tag of the whisky does not sugarcoat it: 1450 Australian dollars. Converted into euros, that's more than 800 euros. The whisky will be shipped to four countries:
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • The United Kingdom
Fun fact: This distillery did not start as a whisky business, but as part of a dairy farming cooperative. In 1997, they decided to diversify their business thanks to their knowledge of milk processing, leading to an entirely new enterprise: a single malt whisky distillery in Northwestern Tasmania.
