Yesterday was International
Irish Whiskey Day, and
Teeling marked the occasion in style. The Irish distillery unveiled a new edition in its Wonders of Wood series: Edition 4 Carpathian Oak.
The Irish distillery surprised everyone yesterday with the reveal of its latest limited-release whiskey. This series is all about experimenting with different types of wood, with each special edition matured in a new variety. This time, the spotlight is on oak from the Carpathians.
A single pot still whiskey with a unique maturation
The fourth edition in the Wonders of Wood series is a Single Pot Still whiskey made to a classic Irish mash bill. The
Teeling whiskey is crafted from 50% malted barley and 50% unmalted barley, and is triple-distilled at the Teeling Distillery in Dublin.
After distillation, the whiskey is matured in rare virgin Carpathian oak casks. This wood hails from the ancient forests of the Carpathian Mountains in Eastern Europe. Oaks from this region are renowned for their striking grain and high tannin content.
The result is a whiskey with a distinctive character: bold spice and woody depth, lifted by bright fruit notes and a gentle sweetness.
What does this special Teeling whiskey taste like?
The distillery has shared detailed tasting notes for this Irish single pot still whiskey. Here’s the breakdown:
- Nose: Rosewater, candied fruit, and freshly sawn wood.
- Palate: Powerful spice with notes of apple, pear, and sandalwood.
- Finish: Clean and lingering, with hints of puff pastry and campfire smoke.
The whiskey is bottled at 50% alcohol by volume (ABV).
