Tomatin Year of the Horse 2026 whisky
Highland distillery Tomatin has released an exclusive whisky to mark the Year of the Horse. This new single malt was matured in a unique combination of casks created especially for the release.
To celebrate Chinese New Year, Tomatin has unveiled a new Year of the Horse whisky. It’s a limited edition single malt that embodies the spirit of the Fire Horse: strength, energy and adventure.

What is the Tomatin Lunar New Year 2026 whisky?

The new Tomatin whisky is a single cask single malt distilled in 2011. It first matured in a sherry solera cask, followed by a first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry Bota Gorda.
This cask type is larger than a standard sherry butt and hails from Jerez, Spain. Thanks to its previous life in a sherry solera, it imparts deep, sweet PX character, while the larger size gives room for Tomatin’s elegant, fruity style to shine.
Jamie Muir, distillery manager at Tomatin, notes that the release was intentionally timed to coincide with Chinese New Year.
Jerez is famed not only as the sherry capital, but also for its horses, especially the renowned Cartujano breed, whose origins date back to the 15th century. This is the very era in which Tomatin’s historical roots lie. The whisky is therefore a tribute to both craftsmanship and tradition.

How does the Tomatin Lunar New Year 2026 whisky taste?

The distillery has provided detailed tasting notes, summarized below:
  • Nose: Orange peel, dried cranberries, honeycomb and cotton candy.
  • Palate: Candied almonds, toffee apples, raisins and salted licorice.
  • Finish: Long and rounded with persistent baking and spice notes.
The whisky is bottled at 56.6 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).
