It's Friday and that means we have a new
Ask Away for the editors and for you. This week we pose the following question to our editorial team: Which whisky
limited editions do you truly deem worth it?
Hessel
When it comes to limited editions, I can no longer see the forest for the trees. With whisky, these words also don't mean much to me. There are so many single cask or unique small batch whiskies that there are more limited ones than not. If I were to recommend any to everyone to taste if they can are the Black Art editions from Bruichladdich. Nowadays they might cost a bit, but they're phenomenal and limited.

That's a good question. For a Limited Edition, I normally look at what's being delivered and whether there are any extras included. With whisky, that's not as easy because I ideally want certainty that I'll enjoy it. That means, besides doing a lot of research on the brand and label, I also spend a lot of time contemplating it. You won't catch me making an impulsive Limited Edition whisky purchase. Consequently, there's currently no Limited Edition whisky that I find worth it.

Well, all whiskies from independent bottlers are also limited editions. The choice is therefore quite extensive at the moment. I find that I nevertheless revert to trusted names like Signatory and The Ultimate who almost never disappoint. Particularly noteworthy, for instance, are bottles from the Signatory cask strength collection. Pouring them neatly is a challenge, but then you do have something perfect in your glass.

To be honest, I wouldn't know. I do know that I consider way too many whiskies to be 'limited'. Naturally, that is the case. If you have a single batch, you've got a limited number of bottles. But I think it's crucial for consumers to understand that every limited release isn't necessarily a tremendously special whisky bottle in terms of flavor profile. I don't have any particular recommendations. As my mother always said: Just act normal, that's crazy enough.
