Glen Scotia honors the trading routes of Campbeltown with exclusive whisky set
Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world. Trading ships brought rum, sherry, and exotic flavors ashore. Now, a quarter-century later, Glen Scotia revives that heritage with the Four Quarters Collection.
The exclusive whisky set features four 25-year-old whiskies, together representing a salute to this illustrious past. The set was specially made for the Distillers One of One whisky auction, which means it is the only one of its kind.
What are the four Glen Scotia whiskies in the Four Quarters set?
The exclusive set for Distillers One of One includes four whiskies:
- 1999 Vintage American Oak Cask (51.9% ABV)
Classic and elegant, fully matured in a refill bourbon barrel. - 1999 Vintage Rum Cask Finish (56.6% ABV)
Exotic and lively, with two years in a Caribbean rum cask. - 1999 Vintage Oloroso Cask Finish (52.9% ABV)
Rich and layered, after three years in a first-fill Oloroso hogshead. - 1999 Vintage Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish (52.8% ABV)
Sweet and deep, with a four-year finish in a PX hogshead.
Whisky from a special year for Glen Scotia Distillery
The four whiskies Glen Scotia bottled in the Four Quarters set are not just a tribute to Campbeltown's trade routes, but also a nod to a special moment for the Scottish distillery.
Each of the single malts comes from 1999, an important year for the distillery. In 1999, the whisky maker in Campbeltown was purchased by the Loch Lomond Group.
So, 1999 is marked in Glen Scotia's history as the year when a new era began, and the kettles officially restarted to produce spirit.
A crate that tells tales
The presentation of the whiskies is almost as impressive as the whisky itself. The collection comes in a handcrafted oak crate with brass inlay.
The outside of the crate is adorned with gilded details like a world globe divided into four parts (the four quarters) and a silver handle. This has been designed by the Scottish jewelers, Hamilton & Inches.
The inside features a leather compartment for each of the four bottles and a drawer containing an engraved brass plate with the story behind the whisky set.
What does Glen Scotia Four Quarters generate for charity?
According to the Distillers One of One website, the unique whisky set should raise between 7000 and 14000 pounds. This will go entirely to The Distillers’ Charity, which will then aid disadvantaged youth.
The Glen Scotia is just one of the many special sets that will be auctioned off in October.
