The Macallan has unveiled the final chapter of the Harmony Collection. For this concluding release, the Scottish distillery has bottled two new single malt whiskies with a tropical twist: The Macallan Harmony Collection Inspired by Fresh Coconut and Inspired by Toasted Coconut.

The Macallan notes that coconut is an aroma that rarely shows distinctly in the brand’s whiskies. For this release, the Whisky Mastery Team specifically selected a range of American oak casks. Thanks to the wood’s natural lactone content, aromas emerged reminiscent of both fresh and toasted coconut.

What’s the difference between the Harmony coconut whiskies?

The Macallan Harmony Collection Inspired by Fresh Coconut is the lighter, livelier of the pair. Bottled at 46.3 percent alcohol by volume (ABV), it marries fresh coconut with citrus, tropical fruit, vanilla, and gentle spice.

For this whisky, The Macallan used, among others, American oak casks that were previously sherry seasoned. The coconut notes from these casks were further refined with the influence of bourbon barrels.

Inspired by Toasted Coconut, by contrast, is fuller and more mature in character. This expression leans heavily on American virgin oak casks. Here too, bourbon barrels were used to bring the whisky into balance. The result is a sweeter whisky with notes of toasted coconut, white chocolate, and caramel. This bottling is a travel retail exclusive.

Tasting notes for the new Harmony Collection

Below are the detailed tasting notes for both whiskies:

Inspired by Fresh Coconut

Nose: Fresh coconut, citrus, tropical fruit, vanilla, sweet oak, and gentle spice.
Palate: Coconut milk, zesty lime, and a soft sweetness.
Finish: Bright, fresh, and floral.

Inspired by Toasted Coconut

Nose: Toasted coconut, crème caramel, white chocolate, and vanilla bean.
Palate: Coconut truffle, lime marmalade, and frangipane.
Finish: Soft, full, and sweet, with lingering notes of coconut and American oak.

The Macallan Harmony Collection features standout packaging

As with earlier releases in the Harmony Collection, the packaging plays a key role. The boxes for both whiskies are made from paper that incorporates repurposed coconut fibers.

Coconut shells and fibers are carbonized in an emissions-free combustion process. The resulting charcoal gives the paper its natural black color. In this way, The Macallan stays true to the Harmony Collection’s guiding principle: reusing natural by-products.

The concluding release is also tied to the TimeSpirit Dining Experience at The Macallan Estate. For this, the whisky maker once again collaborates with El Celler de Can Roca. Pastry chef Jordi Roca created six sweet dishes and serving suggestions crafted specifically to pair with the coconut whiskies.

The Macallan Inspired by Fresh Coconut is coming soon. An exact on-sale date and recommended price have not yet been announced. Inspired by Toasted Coconut will be available exclusively through travel retail.
