Many people find the setting really important when it comes to whisky. How about a setting with music? That's why this week we ask the Monkeys: What's your ideal pairing when it comes to a glass of whisky and a music track?

Eline

For me, there isn't really one specific song I listen to with one specific glass of whisky... rather a playlist! I've named it "film/tech noir" and it's full of (electronic) jazz noir tracks from movies and series. Perfect for a relaxing evening. The combination of whisky and jazz is surely known to whisky lovers, Hans Offringa even wrote a book about it! But a good nip of whisky from a hip flask while watching a performance from a band like Skippinish or The High Kings is certainly atmospheric as well!

It's wonderful to enjoy a good glass of whisky in your own bubble with headphones on. Personally, I like to accompany it with some heavy metal, maybe with a dark whisky like the Laphroaig cask strength. This combination can make me very happy on a Sunday afternoon.

Simon

An interesting combination that I haven't specifically tied to drinking whisky. In general, I listen to different genres of music depending on my mood, but usually with a positive vibe that makes me happy and upbeat. The whisky I drink isn't fixed either, because I don't buy the same whisky again. What I have open, I usually finish off before starting a new bottle. The only exception is my bottle of Mars Iwai Tradition which has been open for quite a few years and hasn't been drunk yet.

Truth be told, I don't often play music while drinking whisky. It's a room full of camaraderie with a good chat about the whisky in the glass or a pleasant conversation in a small setting. This could be about the whisky in the glass or life's pressing matters. Background music often plays, and for me there's no better combination musically than whisky and the blues.

I say: give me a nice glass of Japanese whisky and Ennio Morricone with Ecstasy of Gold or Ludovico Einaudi, and I'll probably have the time of my life.

Ilse

I've never really thought about it. But I never drink whisky alone, preferably in a larger group. Then loud music isn't an option, and there will always be background music. My preference would be lounge music or jazz, so there can still be a conversation. The type of whisky wouldn't determine my choice of music style, perhaps the other way around is something I could try.

To be honest, I don't often have music on when drinking whisky. It's all about a room full of camaraderie and having and engaging conversation about the whisky in the glass or an intimate chat. We also, discuss the whisky in the glass or life's current happenings. Background music is often playing, and for me, there's no better combination in terms of music than whisky and the blues.
