Glenmorangie has made a striking move that was quietly teased earlier. A 30-year-old whisky has suddenly been added to the permanent range. The new Highland single malt, The Thirty, had already surfaced as a label, but now it’s official.
With the arrival of The Thirty,
Glenmorangie Distillery now has the oldest single malt in its core lineup. It’s a statement that once again underscores Glenmorangie’s reputation as an innovator in the world of premium Scotch whisky.
A 30-year-old ode to cask maturation
Glenmorangie The Thirty was crafted under the guidance of Dr. Bill Lumsden, director of whisky creation, and his team at Glenmorangie Distillery. For this whisky, they chose a blend of rare spirits, each matured for at least 15 years in Burgundy red wine casks, combined with whisky traditionally aged in bourbon barrels.
Around two-thirds of the whisky was matured in Burgundy casks, a clear nod to Lumsden’s fascination with the French wine region. The director of whisky creation also notes that far from all of the whisky prepared for this release made it into the final composition.
'It takes three decades to nurture this whisky to its full potential, and we select only the casks that can stand the test of time. Showcasing a whisky long finished in Burgundy casks, The Thirty balances richer, fruity flavours with hints of our signature elegant style.'
- Dr. Bill LumsdenHow does Glenmorangie The Thirty taste?
According to the whisky maker, Glenmorangie’s The Thirty single malt strikes a balanced profile between fruit and spice. He describes aromas of raspberries and cherries, followed by flavors of ripe peach and candied orange. Expect nuances of leather and warming spices as well.
The whisky is bottled at 43% alcohol by volume (ABV).
Luxurious presentation and exclusive availability
The whisky is presented in a luxurious package with deep purple hues, inspired by the color of Burgundy wine. Copper accents reference Glenmorangie’s signature tall stills, while subtle orange details echo the brand’s iconic house style.
Glenmorangie The Thirty carries a recommended price of £740 (approximately €850). It will be available from late March via
the official website, the visitor center in Tain, and the Glenmorangie Boutique at London Heathrow Airport. A broader international rollout will follow later this year.
