An Irish whiskey older than the distillery releasing it
The new whiskey from Keeper’s Heart is much older than the American distillery itself. The whiskey was originally distilled at Cooley Distillery in Ireland and comprises 100% malted barley.
The barrel was selected in 2020 by Brian Nation, master distiller at O’Shaughnessy Distilling (and former master distiller at Irish Distillers), even before Keeper’s Heart existed.
After maturing for more than three decades, the whiskey was eventually bottled for
Keeper’s Heart Whiskey. Co-founder Patrick O’Shaughnessy is delighted with the whiskey:
'Every whiskey we release tells a story, but this one is a legend. It's a tribute to the roots we respect and the rare moments we create.’
- Patrick O’ShaughnessyAn Irish-American whiskey with a surprising element
The whiskey, according to Nation, has an exceptional element that came directly from the pots. A hint of peat smoke is present in the Irish Single Cask whiskey.
‘The pot stills had once been used for peated whiskey and were never fully cleaned. That faint wisp of smoke became a beautiful and unexpected part of this whiskey’s identity.'
- Brian NationWhat are the tasting notes of the Keeper’s Heart 32-Year-Old Whiskey?
The tasting notes of the whiskey are as follows:
- Nose: Tropical fruits such as mandarin, passionfruit, mango, and lychee, with hints of pineapple.
- Palate: Spices, toasted oak, and a soft, subtle smoke.
- Finish: Long, rich in oak and tropical fruit, with a delicate smoke sensation.
The whiskey is bottled at 54.9 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).
