The GlenAllachie is honoring the forthcoming Chinese astrological year with a special 13-year-old whisky. This Speyside single malt matured in three different cask types to build depth and fiery character. Below are the casks used and their influence on the Speyside whisky:
PX sherry: Brown sugar, maraschino cherries, sultanas, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
Oloroso: Deep notes of dark chocolate, mocha, dates, and figs.
Appalachian virgin oak: Butterscotch, vanilla, coconut, and a gentle toast.
How does The GlenAllachie 13 Year Old Year of the Fire Horse taste?
Thanks to its cask profile, this new whisky from Billy Walker’s team is a perfect match for the Chinese New Year celebrations beginning on 17 February 2026. The tasting notes are as follows:
Nose: Fresh orange zest, warm molasses, creamy butterscotch, and mocha, followed by a ripple of cinnamon and rich cocoa.
Palate: Toasted almonds and honeycomb to start, then maraschino cherries, candied ginger, and Black Forest gâteau.
Finish: Long, with lingering notes of blood orange.
The whisky is bottled at 48% alcohol by volume (ABV).
In keeping with this New Year’s release, The GlenAllachie has opted for a vibrant red gift box that channels both the energy of the Fire Horse and the whisky’s depth. The packaging features illustrations by artist Kayler Barbour, including the Fire Horse itself.
The GlenAllachie Year of the Fire Horse (13YO) will be available from November at selected retailers across Asia, with a recommended retail price of £78.99. It’s not yet known whether the whisky will reach other markets, though the distillery itself will also sell the bottle from February.
