The Macallan has released a new edition of its single malt in the Distil Your World series. This time, the distillery’s culinary journey takes us to Paris, the city of baguettes, love, and the Eiffel Tower. So how does this gastronomic whisky taste?
After earlier editions focused on New York, London, Mexico City, and Hong Kong, Paris now takes center stage. As with previous releases, this exclusive single malt from The Macallan was created in collaboration with the brothers of El Celler de Can Roca. This time, the whisky is inspired by the rich gastronomic tradition of the French capital.
The Macallan in search of Paris’s soul
Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell set out to capture the city’s soul: refinement, elegance, and culinary precision. To find that flavor, she combined traditional sherry-seasoned American oak casks, European sherry casks, and ex-bourbon barrels with a striking addition. Cognac casks were used for this whisky, encapsulating the very idea of l’art de la table, the art of gracious dining, in liquid form.
'This whisky is a deeply personal creation, inspired by my time in Paris with Joan Roca and Anne-Sophie Pic. The French capital embodies elegance, passion, and refinement, and I embraced the challenging yet beautiful task of distilling its soul, an essence that one day could be savored in a glass.'
- Kirsteen CampbellWhat does Paris taste like in The Macallan’s hands?
Thanks to extended maturation, the essence of the French capital is captured with flavor. American sherry-seasoned oak casks lay down a creamy, sweet foundation.
European sherry casks then add depth and gentle spice, while ex-bourbon barrels bring tropical, well-balanced notes. The cognac casks lend Distil Your World Paris its French accent with floral nuances and a grape-like note.
Here are the tasting notes:
- Nose: Freshly baked almond croissants, perfumed rose, sweet nectarine, sandalwood, and vanilla.
- Palate: Buttery pâté, brioche, peach melba, and toasted oak.
- Finish: Gentle spices.
The whisky is bottled at 47.2% alcohol by volume (ABV).
A French touch to the packaging
The whisky comes in a luxury case designed by French artist Cassandre Montoriol. She also created the bottle label, drawing inspiration from romance, elegance, and other quintessentially French motifs.
She also produced an artwork that reflects the streets of France, echoing the character of the whisky.
