Glen Scotia has a wonderful series of single malt whiskies that revolve around a remarkable place dense with stories. Each Icons of Campbeltown whisky tells of a symbol on the Campbeltown Cross.
This cross stands in the middle of Campbeltown village square and can be admired by all. Those with keen eyes will spot a mermaid and a dragon, for which Glen Scotia has already released whiskies. Now it's time for the third release: the Wulver, in honor of the werewolf on the cross.
A generous werewolf
The new Wulver single malt from Glen Scotia tells an old Scottish folktale. Once upon a time, there lived a creature with the head of a wolf but the body of a man. While the creature was terrifying to look at, it was said to be surprisingly friendly.
In fact, the Wulver was known for often sharing its catch with the poor in Campbeltown, leaving a fish on their window-sill at night.
Glen Scotia embodies this creature in a whisky selected by Master Blender Ashley Smith. It is a 12-year-old unpeated whisky finished in Tawny port barrels, and bottled at 51.7% alcohol by volume (ABV).
The result is a whisky with a bite due to its strong alcohol content, yet with a soft touch to the tongue.
What are the tasting notes of the Glen Scotia Icons of Campbeltown Wulver whisky?
The whisky tastes as follows:
- Nose: Juicy forest fruits, caramelized nuts, and red apple with caramel.
- Palate: Balanced layers of fig, orange peel, and praline.
- Finish: Dark cocoa and dried fruit linger, accompanied by hints of vanilla and warm oak.
