Deadpool & Wolverine is a reality and just might break all sorts of box office records. But did you know that Hugh Jackman is seriously indulging in whiskey and even gargling it?!
If you look up the verb "gargle", according to Benu Pharmacy it is defined as ‘Gargling cleans the throat and can help with a sore throat.’
Is this the reason why Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in Deadpool & Wolverine is heavily into
Jim Beam and, shortly afterward,
Johnnie Walker Red Label? No, of course not.
When does Wolverine drink in Deadpool & Wolverine?
Quite early in the movie, as soon as Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) meets Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Wolverine is seen drinking alcohol. This leads to a comical scene where he is in a bar with nothing but alcohol as a disinfectant. He downs several of glasses like it's nothing, with Deadpool sarcastically shouting something like 'wreck your liver'.
Spoiler alert: Stop reading here if still have to see the film
Following that is a scene where Wolverine is at a house, which turns out to be the hideout of Gambit (Channing Tatum). He continually drinks
Jim Beam straight from one bottle after another. This means he drinks directly from the bottle. He quickly finishes multiple bottles, at one point even gargling the whiskey! Gambit remarks something along the lines of it being impolite to dive right into his booze stock without introducing himself.
Why is Wolverine downing so much?
Following his Jim Beam binge, we see a scene where he sips from a bottle of Johnnie Walker Red Label. What's noticeable, though, is that he isn't drunk. Yes, there is a joke made, but it doesn't quite add up.
Wolverine, being a superhero with self-healing powers, mentions somewhere in the film that he has lived for over 200 years. So, the alcohol would only affect him for a few moments at most.
Reasons for him to drink comes in the form of dealing with his traumas. As shared on
Quora: ‘He might use alcohol as a mechanism to numb emotional pain, even if he can't get drunk.’
But remember: don’t try this at home. Unlike superheros, we can't drink non-stop. So, savor your glass of whiskey and don't overdo it.
