Do you have a free evening this week and time to unwind? Then there's an enjoyable documentary about whisky you want to see: The Amber Light. It isn't new, but it is indeed fascinating to watch.
'Whisky has a higher purpose.' This is a statement that comes up quickly during The Amber Light.

What is The Amber Light?

The Amber Light is a documentary where writer Dave Broom takes the viewer into the magical world of whisky. The 2019 documentary is available for streaming on diverse platforms. The movie shows Dave Broom visiting various places in Scotland, where whisky is made. There he tells stories about the drink and how it is intertwined with culture, history and everyday life.
We're certainly not going to divulge what you'll see exactly over the course of an hour and a half, but it's definitely worth the watch. Broom portrays at various levels how whisky permeates Scottish culture and shows a few interesting perspectives on the nectar of the gods.

Whisky and art

At one point, he says:
‘An interesting parallel between whisky and art is the idea of a continuum.’
- Dave Broom
In Scotland, there are a whole lot of poems about whisky, people sing about whisky, and the divine drink is so much more than just a liquid. It's something that brings people together and perhaps even partly defines some individuals' identity. In this documentary you will see a little bit of this as well.

Daftmill Distillery in the spotlight in The Amber Light

A lovely quote comes across during an interview with Francis Cuthbert from Daftmill Distillery. He says: ‘Distilling is like curling. It's a winter sport for farmers’.
