It was the fall of 2018 in Thurso at the Wolfburn distillery. Earlier that year, they had released a peated single malt called Morven, and now it was time to add something completely different to their core range: the Wolfburn Langskip.
This whisky owes its name to one of the most important types of ships from the Viking era. An era where merchant ships were often used for raids.

Quality at first touch

Wolfburn Langskip comes in a sturdy cardboard box and it feels luxurious as soon as you hold it in your hands. On the blue-colored packaging, we see beautiful and sleek illustrations and inscriptions in silver. Naturally, the 'sea-wolf' is not missing on the box. The bottle has a nice modern design with the neck resembling one of the stills. A very lovely presentation.

Hello, how are you?

The first greeting of this whisky feels more than good! The sweet smell of toffee is followed by delicate vanilla custard and lemon pie, with coppery aromas indicating its youthfulness in the background. After spending some time in the glass, some notes of pleasant spiciness are released, and it seems like the smells are becoming increasingly complex.
The first fill Bourbon barrels, where this whisky has matured, have done wonders with the distillate, and the first sip immediately gives a rich and full flavor. Despite its alcohol content of 58%, the whisky is very pleasant and drinkable.
On the palate, the drink is spicy and herbal, followed by the sweetness of toffee and white chocolate. The finish is medium to long, dry, and spicy. Thus, the whisky characterizes itself as suitable for a beginner, although an experienced whisky drinker will also certainly appreciate this divine drink. With Langskip, Wolfburn actually surpasses all expectations and such a surprise is only fun!

The Wolfburn Langskip Review – Just as powerful as a Viking ship

The Wolfburn Langskip is a 'crispy' and spicy whisky with beautifully defined aromas and flavors. Despite its youth, Langskip is anything but raw; rather, it's like old Viking ships: tight and strong. In this way, Wolfburn has created something surprisingly strong. The alcohol percentage may be a little on the high side, but don't let that deter you. Because it's all very manageable. We can heartily recommend this whisky. A must buy!
