It hasn’t escaped anyone’s notice: the import tariffs imposed by the United States will also hit the Netherlands. And when it comes to bourbon, we’re really getting the short end of the stick. So we’ve put together a top 5 of whisk(e)y alternatives for your beloved bottle of Jack Daniel’s.
Jack Daniel’s is a crowd-pleaser. Frank Sinatra was buried with a bottle of the famous brand, singer Kesha once brushed her teeth with Jack, and across the globe plenty of people regularly polish off a bottle. But soon that simple bottle of Jack Daniel’s is going to get a lot pricier in the Netherlands.
Prices for a standard bottle of Jack Daniel’s range between 22 and 30 euros, depending on where you buy it and whether you catch a deal.
But say you usually pay 25 euros, before long you’ll be forking over 5 euros more. And it’s not like you’re getting extra centiliters for it. So what do you do? Pay more, or switch to another brand?
We looked at 5 whiskies that hover around the 25-euro mark and could stand in for Jack Daniel’s. Fair warning though: they will taste different, because American whiskey leans heavily on corn.

Jameson

A great alternative to Jack Daniel’s is Jameson: arguably the most famous Irish whiskey brand out there. If you love Jack for its easy-drinking character, trust us: Jameson delivers the same.
That’s thanks to how it’s made. Irish whiskey is triple distilled, which makes it incredibly smooth and approachable.
Be warned: You might just find you don’t even want Jack anymore after this. And the beauty is, once you’ve tried the standard, you can climb the ladder with bottles that offer more complex flavor profiles (and prices).

Bushmills Original

We’ll stay in Ireland for our second pick. Ever had Bushmills? Bushmills Original is also triple distilled. This Irish grain whiskey is incredibly smooth, great neat, and excellent with cola too.
The whiskey is often dubbed the Gentle Giant. The distillery has been around for centuries and knows exactly how to craft a crowd-pleaser.

Peaky Blinders Straight Bourbon

You may have to hunt a bit for this next one, as many bottles are sold out online. This “bourbon” was often found for just twenty euros, and in terms of flavor profile it might be the closest to Jack on this list.
The “bourbon” is produced by Sadler’s in the United Kingdom. Its popularity exploded thanks to the TV series Peaky Blinders. The series may be over, but a feature film is on the way, so who knows, that might spark a fresh wave of Peaky Blinders whiskey bottles!

Ballantine’s

From Ireland we head to Scotland: by some accounts the whisky capital of the world. What’s certain is that the country produces outstanding whisky, including plenty of affordable bottles. With so many divine alternatives close at hand, there’s no need to shed tears over Jack Daniel’s. Save those for the angels.
Ballantine’s is a Scottish blend that brings together more than 40 malts and grains, resulting in an extremely approachable whisky. It’s a touch less sweet than Jack Daniel’s, but it’s still dangerously easy to drink.
As a bonus, they frequently release themed editions featuring bands like AC/DC or Queen. The whisky inside remains the same and so does the price.

Johnnie Walker Black Ruby

We opened with a world-famous whiskey, and we’re closing with a world-famous whisky. You know Johnnie Walker. Red Label is a real bargain (and Black too), but you’ll notice these whiskies taste different from Jack Daniel’s. That’s why we recommend Johnnie Walker’s brand-new release: Black Ruby.
This whisky is defined by layers of fruity notes and was launched to shake up the cocktail scene. In other words, it’s wonderfully approachable: great to drink neat, and brilliant mixed with cola (or anything else).
If this article inspired you to try something other than Jack Daniel’s, let us know which bottle you went for.
Cheers!
