On
Scotland’s wild north coast—where sea, wind, and time leave their mark on every cask of
Wolfburn whisky: a new small batch has been bottled from a handful of barrels. This time, the Scottish distillery has chosen a cask that has spent ten years maturing in their coastal warehouses, sourced from Portugal. This week, we’re shining a spotlight on Wolfburn Small Batch 416 Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
The story behind the whisky
In 2016, Wolfburn secured a limited parcel of exceptional ruby port casks from a remote vineyard in Portugal’s Douro Valley. These casks were filled with fresh spirit from Caithness, carefully sealed, and then left undisturbed for a decade in warehouses by the sea.
That long maturation, shaped by salty sea air and Scotland’s changeable climate, gave the whisky remarkable depth and layering. It showcases the distillery’s signature style, while adding a compelling Portuguese twist. And there’s another first for the series.
Release 416 is also the first age-statement whisky in the Small Batch Series, making this edition especially exciting for fans of the brand.
What to expect from Wolfburn Small Batch 416
The distillery describes this new single malt as everything that makes Wolfburn exceptional. Expect warm ruby port notes intertwined with sea salt, followed by aromas of raisins, cherries, and sultanas over a wine-led foundation.
On the palate, look for soft caramel, creamy vanilla, and vinous influences, then darker tones of dates and figs with gentle oak and a wisp of smoke.
It bids farewell with a long, warming finish. Caramel and dried fruits linger, while those hallmark ruby port accents carry elegantly through to the end.
