The Scottish Aberfeldy Distillery has unveiled a new, highly exclusive single malt: Aberfeldy 24-Year-Old White Port Double Cask Finish. This whisky not only boasts an impressive age, but also a mouthwatering double cask finish.

The new single malt from Aberfeldy is part of the Exceptional Cask Series, in which Aberfeldy experiments with distinctive cask maturations that further deepen the distillery’s character. Previous releases in the series were finished in, among others, Tuscan red wine casks and Cadillac wine casks from France.

These whiskies have already explored fresh twists on the Highland distillery’s soft, honeyed character—and they’re doing it again. This time, the choice fell on White Port casks from Portugal’s Douro Valley.

White Port for added depth and dimension

While red Port casks often deliver rich, dark fruit notes, White Port casks bring a brighter, more vibrant flavor profile. Stephanie Macleod, Malt Master at Aberfeldy, says the decision to use White Port was a deliberate one, aiming to present a surprisingly fresh take on an older whisky. According to Macleod, the whisky offers “a taste of Portugal through the lens of Aberfeldy’s craftsmanship.”

White Port is known for lively hints of citrus zest, stone fruit, and subtle nutty accents. These characteristics enhance Aberfeldy’s style without overpowering it.

What does the Aberfeldy 24-Year-Old White Port Double Cask Finish taste like?

According to the official tasting notes, the whisky delivers aromas and flavors of ripe orchard fruits, honeyed apricots, citrus blossom, and vanilla. Tasting notes below:

Nose: Fresh and vibrant, with notes of honey, nectarine, and malt.
Palate: Ripe sweet apricots, citrus blossom, and vanilla.
Finish: Soft, warming malt tones.

The whisky is bottled at 50.7 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).

With only 252 bottles available, the Aberfeldy 24-Year-Old White Port Double Cask Finish is decidedly scarce. It’s available in just one place: at the distillery itself.

Visitors to the Aberfeldy Distillery can sample the whisky over the summer in the Distillery Bar for £13 per glass. A bottle can also be purchased for 350 dollar.
