Clonakilty Kings Collection
Fans of whiskies with a great story can make some room on the shelf. Clonakilty has launched a brand-new whiskey series that revolves around mythology, folklore, and legends. The first bottling in the Chronicles of the Coast series has arrived.
Clonakilty Distillery has unveiled its Chronicles of the Coast whiskey series. This is a new collection of rare and collectible Irish whiskeys. The exclusive line will feature one single cask release per quarter, each exploring a different theme.
It’s also a multi-year series that will reference a card from the classic deck each time.

The Kings Collection opens the new Clonakilty whiskey series

The opening chapters of the Chronicles of the Coast series form The Kings Collection. Every release in this whiskey line is based on a playing-card king and paired with an iconic figure from Irish mythology.
After the Kings Collection, the Queens, Jacks, and Aces will follow, creating a unique collector’s set that brings together whiskey, art, and storytelling.

Clonakilty The King of Spades kicks off the series

The very first bottling in the series is The King of Spades. This whiskey is inspired by Manannán mac Lir, the Celtic god of the sea and ruler of Tír na nÓg. According to legend, it was a magical realm beyond the horizon where time stands still and eternal youth reigns.
Manannán mac Lir was known as the protector of seafarers and often described as a mysterious figure appearing in the mist above the ocean. His bond with the sea makes him the perfect emblem for Clonakilty’s signature coastal character.
For this first Irish whiskey in the set, they chose a rare apricot brandy cask finish, adding extra layers of fruity sweetness to the spirit.
