The Boann Legacy Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is a tribute to 700 years of whiskey history. While the whiskey itself isn’t quite that old, its composition is something special.
Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is considered one of the most distinctive whiskey styles from Ireland. Boann Distillery aims to honor that tradition while making room for innovation.
That balance comes through clearly in Boann Legacy Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey. It has been matured in no fewer than seven different cask types. The distillery has crafted a whiskey that not only marries tradition with innovation, but also blends approachability with depth in a single dram.
Which casks were used for Boann Legacy whiskey?
For Boann Legacy, the distillery selected the following casks:
- Bourbon
- French Oak
- Oloroso Sherry
- Pedro Ximénez
- Palo Cortado
- Amontillado
- Moscatel
The combination of these casks delivers soft, fruity notes with a distinctive spicy undertone.

The family-run distillery has shared detailed tasting notes for this new Irish whiskey. Here they are at a glance:
- Nose: Toffee apple, warm sherry, ripe orchard fruits, and gentle cola-candy notes.
- Palate: Honey, caramel, floral accents, bright citrus, candied ginger, and refined spice.

We have not spoken to the individuals in the video ourselves, nor can we verify who they are. We describe it as a Chinese whisky because it is released by a Chinese distillery. - Let's keep this factually correct. Pernod Ricard DID NOT release a Chinese whisky. Their first output from The Chuan (the name of the distillery in Sichuan, China) wasn't fit for bottling. What they actually bottled was imported Scotch whisky. This is why the product is called "PURE MALT" and not "Chinese Whisky" - because Pure Malt is not a regulated term - this is not a secret. This was exposed about a week after they released it. There were even videos about their own staff on site admitting it was made from imported whisky - which Pernod Ricard got the lawyers onto to get the video pulled.
