Add Whisky Monkeys as a Google favoriteAt Chivas, it’s not all about blended whisky. The Scotch whisky company has announced a special single malt from the distillery known as the spiritual home of Chivas Regal. The Strathisla 21 Year Old 2005 Vintage has spent an impressive 21 years maturing in sherry casks. But what makes this new release so special, and how much will it set you back?
Strathisla Unveils 21-Year-Old Single Malt
If you regularly enjoy a glass of Chivas Regal, chances are you’ve already tasted whisky from Strathisla without even knowing it. The distillery in Keith, Speyside, supplies a key component of the renowned blended Scotch whisky.
Every now and then, however, Strathisla also releases a special single malt under its own name. The new Strathisla 21 Year Old 2005 Vintage is a case in point.
The whisky is part of Chivas Brothers’ Distillery Reserve Exclusives collection. For this series, exceptional casks from the company’s Scotch whisky distilleries are selected for limited-edition bottlings.
What Makes the Strathisla 21 Year Old Special?
For this new release, Strathisla used whisky distilled in 2005. It then matured for 21 years in first-fill European oak sherry casks. By using these fresh casks, the distillery ensured that the wood would have a major influence on the whisky’s final flavour.
The whisky was also bottled at a suitably robust strength. Strathisla 21 Year Old went into the bottle at a natural cask strength of 60% alcohol by volume (ABV).

- Hi Yvonne, Thank you for your response and for sharing the video. Unfortunately, the evidence you referred to consists only of two people talking about the whisky, without any explanation or identification. We have not spoken to the individuals in the video ourselves, nor can we verify who they are. We describe it as a Chinese whisky because it is released by a Chinese distillery. As you mentioned, the distillery has chosen to label the product as “pure malt” instead of “Chinese whisky.” Based on that, we do not believe they are doing anything illegal.M0nkey16-11-2025
