The Scottish blender
Compass Box has unveiled a whisky that does exactly what the title promises. This is a 10 Year Old is a blend made entirely from whiskies that are precisely 10 years old.
The rule with
blended whisky is that your whisky is only as old as the youngest drop in the bottle. Compass Box knows that all too well. The blender now seems to be releasing a whisky that is 10 years old to the minute and that goes for every single drop in the bottle. The striking name
‘This is a 10-year-old Whisky’ really says it all.
A blended whisky with nothing to hide
Compass Box chose that name deliberately, because the blend listed on the
label consists solely of 10-year-old whiskies. But which ones? According to the label, there are four in total:
- 69.3% Clynelish Ex-Bourbon (10 years)
- 20.4% Ardnamurchan Peated (10 years)
- 6.8% Ardnamurchan Unpeated (10 years)
- 3.5% Linkwood Palo Cortado (10 years)
The whisky was crafted by whisky makers Samuel Travers and Michael Stephenson, renowned for their innovative blends.
A striking mix of styles in one bottle
The whiskies in the bottle may all be 10 years old—that part’s no surprise. The twist lies in the diversity of styles. In this release, Compass Box brings together different distillery characters to create something unexpected.
Think the waxy, fruity notes of Clynelish, the smoky edge of Ardnamurchan, and the subtle Palo Cortado sherry influence from Linkwood. The result is a complex yet approachable flavor profile that appeals to both newcomers and seasoned enthusiasts. According to the label, it’s bottled at 50.5 percent.
Limited release: just 3,610 bottles
As if that weren’t enough, this whisky is limited to only 3,610 bottles. With an ABV of 50.5% and no added color or chill filtration, the whisky is presented in its purest form.
That mix of transparency, quality, and scarcity has already made this release a hot ticket among collectors and fans alike.
When will Compass Box This is a 10 year old whisky be released?
It’s not yet clear when exactly this Compass Box whisky will hit the market. When a
label is filed, it usually means something is on the way—but a release date is never included. The same goes for the price.
