When you think of whisky, your mind probably goes straight to countries like Scotland, Ireland, or the United States. But did you know that whisky is also made in the far north of Europe, in the heart of Scandinavia? That’s right:
Finland!
Finnish whisky: craftsmanship from the north
In the city of Lahti you’ll find
Teerenpeli, a distillery that has been earning growing acclaim in recent years for its artisanal single malts. This Finnish producer blends tradition with innovation and has already released a number of impressive whiskies.
Their whisky matures in a truly unique climate. Think of cold winters and mild summers, with in both seasons a variety of conditions that lead to a completely different maturation process than in other countries. Teerenpeli also uses local barley and pure Finnish spring water, and it’s a distillery that has been honing its craft for years.
Already a broad range of unique Finnish whiskies
Teerenpeeli’s whiskies, like Kulo, Savu, Kaski, and Palo, vary widely: from smoky and powerful to soft and fruity. Teerenpeli’s whisky range showcases the diversity and craftsmanship of Finnish single malt. The distillery’s core lineup features five distinctive expressions: Kaski, Kulo, Savu, Portti, and the Teerenpeli 10-year-old.
Kaski is fully matured in sherry casks, offering rich notes of dried fruit, spice, and smooth malt sweetness, while Kulo intensifies that profile with seven years of ageing and a higher strength for deeper caramel and cocoa tones. Savu introduces a gentle peat character inspired by Finland’s smoke saunas, balancing soft smoke with sweet malt and subtle fruit.
Portti, finished in port wine casks, adds a vibrant, wine-like complexity with touches of toffee, berries, and roasted sugar, while the 10-year-old serves as Teerenpeli’s flagship: a harmonious mix of bourbon and sherry maturation that delivers a refined balance of fruit, oak, and spice.
Together, these five whiskies reflect the brand’s Nordic sensibility: clean, natural, and quietly sophisticated, with each bottle expressing a unique side of Finland’s whisky-making identity.
The Finnish Distillery showcases that the art of whiskymaking is maybe different in each country, but this leads to a variety of tastes for every whisky lover to enjoy.
