Sustainability leads to one redesigned package after another. Now, the Scottish
Glengoyne distillery is rethinking its packaging. Good news: they're not getting any less exciting.
FAQ:
- Which Glengoyne whisky is getting revamped?
The Glengoyne 18 and 21 Year Old are getting a makeover. - What exactly will change?
The boxes will be 100 percent recyclable and the bottle is from 49 percent recycled glass. - Will anything happen to the whisky?
The taste of Glengoyne whisky remains untouched.
Glengoyne focuses on sustainability, but with a difference
Many whisky packages have recently been revamped. Tubes disappeared and the glass from many whisky bottles got thinner. Glengoyne is also revamping its packaging, but does not say goodbye to the outside packaging.
Instead of getting rid of the box, something beautiful is being done with it. The box of the Glengoyne 18 Year Old and 21 Year Old single malt is becoming more sustainable and more interesting.
The outer box becomes a fully recyclable ‘gatefold’, a box with a flap at the front. The flap displays a photo of Richard Fox, a local artist. He photographed Dumgoyne Hill, which is located near the distillery in
Scotland.
The bottle of Glengoyne whisky will also be modified. 49 percent recycled glass will be used in the future. This will save the distillery a significant amount of CO2 annually, although it has not been announced how much.
What happens to the Glengoyne whiskies?
The distillery is revamping the packages, but is otherwise leaving the whisky alone. The new boxes of the 18 and 21-year-old single malt will therefore contain exactly the same whisky as before.

Are the other Glengoyne bottles getting revamped too?
The distillery begins the sustainability process with the 18 and 21 year old whisky, but there are many more in the distiller's range. Whether and when these bottles and packages will be revamped for sustainability has not been announced.
Has Glengoyne made any other sustainable changes?
The distillery is not taking its first step to protect the environment with the new packaging. Many more green changes have been made. Natural methods are used for water purification, beehives have been placed on the premises, and there is abundant wind and solar energy.
Fun fact: Glengoyne Distillery distils very slowly. The distillery even has the slogan 'Unhurried since 1833’.
