Glengoyne Distillery has been releasing its Teapot Dram series for years, with fresh editions appearing regularly. The range has now reached its eleventh release, this time brimming with cherry influence.
A whisky born from tradition
Sometimes an old tradition leads to something wonderful. That’s certainly true of the Teapot Dram, which nods to the customs of distilleries in days gone by. Once upon a time, workers at the stills were given three measures of whisky during their shift.
But not everyone drank theirs—especially many of the younger staff. Instead, they would pour their drams into a copper teapot. The older hands, who did enjoy a wee dram now and then, knew this and would help themselves from the teapot between tasks.
Handing out whisky during shifts ended in 1970, but the stories live on, especially at
Glengoyne Distillery.
This Highland maker also embraced the Teapot Dram tradition, with staff always receiving sherry-matured whisky. Fittingly, the 11-part series consists entirely of sherry-aged whiskies.
What is Glengoyne Teapot Dram 11?
For the eleventh release in the series,
Glengoyne’s distillery manager, Robbie Hughes, oversaw the entire process. The whisky matured exclusively in first-fill sherry casks, including European oak sherry butts and hogsheads.
The exact length of maturation has not been disclosed. After aging, it was bottled at natural cask strength (59.7% alcohol by volume) to capture peak flavor.
How does Glengoyne Teapot Dram 11 taste?
