What kind of whisky is the Glengoyne Mizunara Oak 16 Year Old?

For the new edition of its Masters’ Series whisky line, Glengoyne Distillery has chosen a cask type that perfectly complements its unhurried character. The new single malt in the series comes from the renowned Mizunara oak from Japan.
The single malt first aged for ten years in a mix of first-fill sherry and refill bourbon barrels. Then, the whisky was relocated to the Japanese oak barrels from Hokkaido for a second maturation.
Katy Muggeridge, brand director at Glengoyne, explains that it is not simply a new whisky, but more of a sensory experience.
'We have travelled the world to find casks that enhance Glengoyne’s elegant, fruity character. Mizunara Oak was a natural next step for us following the launch last year of Glengoyne White Oak, an award-winning whisky which is matured in American Bourbon and virgin oak casks.'
