We regularly discuss how ‘the water of life’ unexpectedly fills a supporting role in great films or series. But this time we have a tip for a film where whisky takes the leading role: Arhur’s Whisky.
Are you a Prime Video subscriber? Want to watch something light-hearted? Then check out Arthur’s Whisky. At first glance, the title may seem a bit silly, as the focus is on three women and the category revolves around whisky. But isn't that precisely what makes it exciting?! This film is all about whisky!

What are those hidden bottles in the barn: whisky.... or?

The film tells the story of three friends, Joann, Linda, and Susan. When Joann's husband suddenly dies, they accidentally discover several bottles of whisky in the man's old barn.
It’s amusing, as the ladies initially don't expect it to be whisky. One of them opens a bottle and takes a whiff. She quickly identifies the scent of peat, wood, and coconut, confirming it is 100% whisky she is holding. The phrase ‘Johnnie Walker vintage’ even comes up (though Prime incorrectly subtitles it as ‘Johnny Walker —shame!).

The surprising role of this drink in Arthur's Whisky

One evening, as the ladies talk and reflect on life, they decide to open one of those whisky bottles. What's revealed? Joann's partner wasn't just bootlegging in the barn; he made an age reducing elixir!
Haha! From that point on, you're watching a sort of Freaky Friday, but with a twist, as it delightfully alternates between the ‘old’ and the young ladies. Although the cinematography isn't very impressive, director Stephen Cookson has set up a charming film here.
Hurray for the nod to whisky and for casting three women as leads. A big part is also played by Diane Keaton.
