The
Lagavulin distillery appears to be exploring its literary aspect, or so it seems. A second whisky label has emerged for the
Scottish whisky with a famous poem on it.
FAQ
- Where did the label with the poem appear?
In the online TTB database for labels.
- Which poem is on the label?
The Strange Horse of Suinabhal by William Black.
The labels appearing in the online
TTB database are not a guarantee that a particular whisky will actually be released. Here, a distillery or bottler simply registers a label, but does not make any official announcements.
Label for well-known Lagavulin whisky receives a Scottish poem
The new whisky label for the Lagavulin whisky is intended for the Lagavulin 16 Year Old. The label emerges shortly after a label came by for the Lagavulin 11 Year Old with a poem on it.
On the label of the Lagavulin 11 year old whisky, the poem was by Robert Burns. For this whisky, the text of another famous Scottish poet has been used, namely William Black. The poem the text comes from is ‘The Strange Horse of Suinabhal’.
You will find the text that is on the label below:
‘I have been to Islay more than three times or twice, and I have been near the LAGAVULIN Distillery. I know that it is the purest water from the spring that makes LAGAVULIN whisky as good as fresh milk.'
Is Lagavulin going literary?
With the arrival of the new label, it seems that the Islay Distillery wants to add a literary twist to its whisky bottles.
The Lagavulin 11 and 16 already feature a poem, but whether this will also happen for the
Lagavulin 8 Year Old whisky and the Lagavulin Distillers Edition whisky is not known.
When will the new Lagavulin labels hit the shelves?
It is unclear when the Scottish distillery will roll out the new labels. Keep an eye on the shops for the new bottles with the poems on them.
