Johnnie Walker has unveiled a new version of its renowned Blue Label whisky. For the Indian Festive Blend, the whisky brand has once again teamed up with Indian fashion designer Rahul Mishra. This time, not only has the bottle been given a striking design, but the whisky itself is also different from the standard Blue Label.
Johnnie Walker regularly releases special editions of its Blue Label whisky. These often feature a distinctive bottle or package, but for the Indian Festive Blend, the brand has taken a different approach. The whisky has been specially crafted for India’s festive season.
To create it, Johnnie Walker collaborated with Rahul Mishra, who previously designed a bottle for the brand. The fashion designer is known for his vibrant creations and has once again drawn inspiration from India for this collaboration.
Johnnie Walker gives Blue Label a new flavour profile
The new whisky was crafted by master blender Dr Emma Walker. For the Indian Festive Blend, she drew inspiration from a range of flavours commonly found in Indian cuisine. The whisky is said to feature notes of cardamom, saffron, rosewater and citrus.
Here are the tasting notes:
- Nose: Cardamom, saffron, rosewater and citrus.
- Palate: Honey, chocolate, fruit and warming spices.
- Finish: A gentle smokiness.
So this is more than simply the existing Blue Label whisky in a different bottle. A genuinely different blend has been created for this edition, which the brand says is designed to pair well with the flavours of Indian cuisine.
To create it, Johnnie Walker selected whiskies from its vast reserves. The brand has more than 10 million casks of whisky maturing. According to Johnnie Walker, on average, only one in every 10,000 casks is suitable for use in Blue Label.
A distinctive bottle for the new Johnnie Walker whisky
The whisky itself is not the only thing that has changed—the bottle has also been given a complete makeover. Rahul Mishra created a colourful design featuring a range of elements inspired by India’s natural world and culture.
This makes the Indian Festive Blend appealing not only to whisky lovers, but also to collectors of distinctive bottles. The new edition is being released as a limited edition. This will not be the last collaboration between Johnnie Walker and Mishra, either. A variety of events and special experiences are also planned around the release.
