Not a Phase
Kristiane Westray is a whisky writer who has now teamed up with independent bottler Milroy’s of Soho. A new whisky has been released to raise funds for the trans+ charity Not A Phase.
The single malt launched is an aged single malt Scotch from Dailuaine, named For the Dolls. It was distilled in July 2012.

What is the purpose of this whisky?

While you might expect the aim to be simply creating a delicious whisky to enjoy, there are two very different goals at its heart:
  • raising money for Not A Phase
  • building awareness of the challenges faced by the trans+ community in the United Kingdom
Westray herself approached Milroy’s of Soho to see if a bottling could be arranged, and she’s delighted with the support they’ve provided.
'Like many at that time, I looked at what I could do to practically support the trans+ community around me. I approached Milroy’s of Soho about arranging a bottling and I’m delighted that they’ve offered so much support. I’m also thrilled that every cisgender creative involved with the For the Dolls project generously donated their time and skills free of charge.'
For the Dolls is a powerful, purpose-driven whisky bottling that doesn’t just raise vital funds for Not A Phase, but also raises awareness of the increased hostility faced by the trans+ community in the UK following the UK Supreme Court’s cruel ‘biological sex’ ruling in April.
Naturally, the question is how the whisky tastes. The tasting notes are in:
  • Nose: green apple, fresh melon, and earthy hessian
  • Palate: pear, blackberries, black tea, and rhubarb and custard
  • Finish: medium length with drying baking spices

Where can you buy For the Dolls?

For the Dolls has been available since November 19 and can be purchased for £55 via the Milroy’s of Soho website. The whisky can also be ordered at a handful of bars in London.
