Mortlach Distillery has lifted the veil on the first release in a brand-new whisky series. We’re talking about the inaugural single malt in the Neverbound line: Mortlach Neverbound Release 01.
The plan is to introduce a new release in the series every year.
What is Mortlach Neverbound Release 01?
The first release in the new Mortlach range is all about flavor, cask maturation, and precision. As always, the distillery employs its iconic 2.81 distillation technique to craft a uniquely characterful whisky.
After distillation, this release matured in French oak casks that were air-dried for four years at a cooperage in France’s Cognac region. This tempers the harsher edges of the wood influence and allows the whisky’s umami character to shine.
Dr. Craig Wilson, Master Blender at
Mortlach Distillery, explains that this approach is new for the distillery and a perfect fit for the whisky’s character.
Here, we give the whisky a new dimension of savory flavor, while lending it a syrupy, deeply textured mouthfeel.
