For whisky enthusiasts, special bottles and limited editions are the ultimate Holy Grail. Once you’ve secured the first release, you’ll crave the rest. Here are five remarkable whisky collections, Scottish icons, and Japanese craftsmanship, that deserve pride of place in your cabinet.
The Game of Thrones whiskyseries
Fantasy lovers have likely heard of the Game of Thrones whisky collection. During HBO’s massively popular Game of Thrones television series, Diageo released a limited-edition set of single malts, each representing one of the great Houses of Westeros and The Night’s Watch.
This collaboration brought together the world of premium Scotch whisky and the epic storytelling of Game of Thrones, making it a must-have for collectors and fans alike.
- House Stark: Dalwhinnie Winter’s Frost
- House Tully: Singleton of Glendullan Select
- House Targaryen: Cardhu Gold Reserve
- House Lannister: Lagavulin 9 Year Old
- House Greyjoy: Talisker Select Reserve
- House Baratheon: Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old
- House Tyrell: Clynelish Reserve
- The Night’s Watch: Oban Bay Reserve
- Six Kingdoms: Mortlach 15 Year Old
Officially, this is the complete Game of Thrones whisky collection, but don’t forget the special Johnnie Walker releases. Alongside the nine single malts, Diageo also launched Johnnie Walker White Walker and the duo A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire, each inspired by the epic houses and battles of Westeros.
While you may still find the occasional single bottle from one of the houses, tracking down a full set has become a serious challenge. These whiskies were limited editions and have since become highly sought after by collectors. Owning all of them will definitely make an impression in any whisky cabinet.
Glenmorangie a Tale of Series
The
Glenmorangie 'A Tale of'-series is one of the Highland distillery’s most creative and story-driven ranges. Each release explores an unusual inspiration, from A Tale of Cake, finished in Tokaji dessert wine casks, to A Tale of Winter, which captures the cozy feeling of snow days with marsala wine cask influence.
Every bottle is about a personal story from Dr. Bill Lumsdens memory. These whiskies push boundaries in flavor and design, featuring bold packaging that reflects their playful narratives.
For collectors, the ‘A Tale of’ bottlings offer far more than just distinctive flavor profiles. These limited editions highlight Glenmorangie’s innovative cask experiments and frequently gain value once they sell out. Their vibrant, story-driven packaging makes them a centerpiece on any whisky shelf, while the complex and often unexpected flavor combinations continue to surprise even the most seasoned whisky enthusiasts.
The Macallan Distil your World Collection
From
Scotland’s Speyside,
The Macallan annually releases a whisky celebrating a world city in collaboration with the renowned chefs of El Celler de Can Roca. Previous editions honored Hong Kong, Scotland, and Mexico. This year’s focus: Paris, the city of love.
Matured in French cognac casks, the Paris edition follows the same format: a beautifully designed box featuring a city map, archival photos, and a book chronicling the Roca brothers’ journey with The Macallan. Collecting these editions side by side creates not just a whisky series, but a liquid world atlas.
Glen Scotia Icons of Campbeltown series
From the historic whisky town of Campbeltown,
Glen Scotia’s Icons of Campbeltown series draws inspiration from the town’s Celtic cross, adorned with symbolic figures including a mermaid and a dragon.
Two releases have arrived so far: the latest, a 14-year-old single malt finished in ex-Barolo casks, showcases the dragon motif in fiery artwork. The cross features five icons in total, hinting at five future bottlings.
Which symbol will join the mermaid and dragon next? Glen Scotia is keeping that a closely guarded secret.
House of Suntory Kogei Collection
From
Japan’s House of
Suntory comes a refined, understated duo: the Kogei Collection. It features two smoky single malts, one from Yamazaki, one from Hakushu, both matured in Spanish oak casks.
The design, created in partnership with the famed Kyoto textile house Chiso, nods to traditional Bokashi-zome dyeing techniques. This collection may lack the grandeur of ornate boxes, but its restrained elegance and subtle craftsmanship make it equally collectible.
The packaging is designed in collaboration with the famous Komonu House Chiso, and a nod to the Bokashi-zome technique.
