Teeling Sommelier Edition Rioja Cask Whiskey

Teeling, situated in the Irish capital of Dublin, has released a new whiskey matured in Spanish Rioja red wine casks. This is the seventh edition of the Sommelier Selection.

For years, this range of whiskeys has tapped into diverse wine regions around the world. Previous releases boasted whiskeys that matured in French, Italian, and Portuguese wine casks. This time, it's the turn of Rioja red wine casks, renowned from Northern Spain.

Jack Teeling, the founder of the Irish brand, is extremely delighted with the new whiskey.

'With our Sommelier Selection, we set out to push the boundaries of Irish whiskey by bringing the influence of world-class wine regions into our whiskey-making. Rioja is at the heart of Spanish winemaking, and we are delighted to showcase how its red wine casks can add a new dimension to our Small Batch, continuing our journey of discovery to what Irish and Teeling Whiskey can be.'

What does the Teeling whiskey influenced by Rioja red wine casks taste like?

The question, of course, is how the whiskey from Teeling Distillery tastes. What is known is that the whiskey holds an alcohol percentage of 46%. The Northern Spanish red wine casks are known for imparting dark and red fruit flavors. This results in a whiskey flavored with strawberries compote, cherry, cinnamon, and caramel, followed by dark berries, butterscotch, black pepper, and nutmeg.

The tasting notes are as follows:

Nose: Strawberries compote, cherries, delicate cinnamon spice, and caramel sweetness
Palate: Dark berries, butterscotch, black pepper and nutmeg
Finish: Long, luxurious finish with dry tannins, light minerality, honey and a hint of dark chocolate.

The Teeling Whiskey Sommelier Selection – Rioja Red Wine Cask Finish is on sale at the distillery itself in Ireland, for 55 euros. Furthermore, the spirit is shipped to the following countries:
