Something special was recently bottled in Fife. Saltire Rare Malt has released a Tamnavulin whisky for the most wonderful time of the year. This 17-year-old single malt is the bottler’s first-ever Christmas Special Single Malt—and, as far as we know, the first dedicated Christmas whisky of the season.
As with every Saltire Rare Malt release, this special Christmas bottling was selected with guidance from Hans Offringa and Becky Offringa, The Whiskey Couple. Their expertise ensures only the most exceptional casks make the cut. In this case, it’s a whisky that pairs beautifully with a crackling fire and festive scenes.

What is the Saltire Rare Malt Tamnavulin Christmas Special Single Malt?

Saltire Rare Malts’ very first Christmas Special Single Malt comes from a second-fill European oak hogshead, seasoned with Oloroso sherry. The Tamnavulin spirit matured in it for 17 years, from 8 February 2008, developing into a richly flavoured whole.
Bottled especially for Christmas 2025, it carries a warm, wintry character. Keith Rennie, founder and director of Saltire Rare Malt, is delighted with the release.
“This release is our love letter to winter. It’s elegant, nostalgic, and made for those quiet, golden moments when the world slows down. If Christmas had a flavour, this would be it.”
- Keith Rennie

How does the Saltire Rare Malt Tamnavulin 17 Year Old taste?

The bottler has shared an expansive tasting profile for this Christmas whisky. On the nose, expect dried fruits, raisins, gentle oak spices, and a delicate tannic structure.
On the palate and into the finish, look for light spices, a warming character with cigar boxes, chestnut paste, and cherry pipe tobacco.
The whisky is bottled at 48.8 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).
