In Zelhem, Distillery de Bronckhorst recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. That called for a big party—already done—and a special release: the Dahomey Special Edition whisky. Bottled in limited quantities, it was poured and enjoyed by many fans during the celebration at the distillery.
For everyone who couldn’t be there, Zelhem still has something special in store. The distillery has kicked off a special whisky triptych with a grain whisky you won’t want to miss.

From a personal quest to a standout whisky

Master distiller Erik Legters began with a personal passion: a quest for flavor. He didn’t just start any distillery; he focused on sustainability and pure taste.
For years, the distillery has worked with grains grown on its own land. These aren’t just any grains, but heritage varieties, transformed into new make spirit with artisanal care. That means literally no one else has these grains (and no one else can make these single estate grain whiskies).

What is the Dahomey Grain Double Cask whisky?

This has led to a unique new whisky release, launching a trio of grain whiskies for lovers of pure flavor. The character of this single grain whisky comes directly from the grains used.
The whisky’s flavor is bold and speaks for itself. After distillation, the spirit matured in a bourbon cask, followed by a finish in an STR cask with heavy toasting to amplify the profile.
The result is a playful tingle of pepper layered over deep, malty notes. Intrigued already? Just wait until you read the tasting notes.

What to expect from the Grain Double Cask whisky

The distillery describes this single estate grain whisky as powerful yet refined. Think subtle hints of wood, with notes of caramel and burnt sugar.
Center stage goes to the ancient grain used. It delivers a lively flavor you won’t often encounter: toasted bread, citrus with malt, and a kick of pepper. The finish brings sweet currants and a whisper of chocolate.
Distillery de Bronckhorst’s new whisky is bottled to taste. At 53 percent alcohol by volume (ABV), there’s room to take the full experience even deeper.
Savor it neat as the distiller intended, or add a drop of water to open up the aromas and flavors. This is a whisky to slow down with and truly enjoy.

Two more spirits to complete the set

The Dahomey Grain Double Cask is the first part of a triptych forming a new special edition. Alongside this release, two more whiskies are on the way. We’ll dive deeper into them later, but here’s a quick preview:
