Belvoye whisky
For some, drinking whisky is a dream; for others, making it is. And sometimes, that dream goes even further, as you'll see in this edition of Whisky Names Explained.
Whisky is made all over the world, including France. That's where the brand Bellevoye comes from. No, this isn't a tale of Beauty and the Beast, though is something magical about this brand.
Bellevoye was founded by Alexandre Sirech and Jean Moueix, who saw their whisky project as a dream journey. In old French, Bellevoye means 'the beautiful path.'

Triple malt whisky

Their whisky brand, Bellevoye, is crafted using whiskies from three different distilleries: one in Lille, one in Alsace, and one near Cognac. (Yes, Cognac is not just a drink it's also a region.) That makes Bellevoye a triple malt whisky. And it's 100% French.
The brand’s marketing approach feels inspired by the Scots. Take for example Johnnie Walker’s colored labels. Bellevoye uses a similar concept, offering its whiskies in different colors:
  • Rouge (red)
  • Bleu (blue)
  • Blanc (white)
  • Prune (plum/pink)
  • Vert (green)
  • Orange (orange)
  • Noir (black)
These whiskies range from 40% to 43% ABV, and each color has a distinct cask finish. For example, Vert (Green) is finished in Calvados casks, while Blanc (White) is finished in Sauternes casks.

Where can you find Bellevoye whisky?

Bellevoye is widely available online, and, much like Johnnie Walker, the price often rises with the rarity or prestige of the color. For example, Prune (with its striking pink-purple bottle) is typically more expensive than Orange.
The real question is: on which “beautiful path” in your life will you choose to open one of these bottles?
