Beyoncé has become the sole owner of the whisky brand SirDavis. The singer has acquired the stake previously held by French luxury group Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy. As a result, she is now the only owner of the whiskey brand named after her great-grandfather.

SirDavis was launched in 2024 as a collaboration between Beyoncé and Moët Hennessy, the wines and spirits division of LVMH. With LVMH selling its stake, the whisky is now officially owned by Beyoncé alone.

How much Beyoncé paid for LVMH’s share has not been disclosed. LVMH declined to provide further details about the transaction and did not say why it divested its stake.

A personal story behind the whisky

SirDavis Whisky holds a deeply personal meaning for Beyoncé. The brand is named after her great-grandfather Davis Hogue, who distilled whisky illegally in the American South during Prohibition in the 1920s.

She deliberately added the honorific “Sir” as a tribute:an act of respect that Black men in the segregated South were too often denied.

The choice to spell it “whisky” without the “e” is intentional as well. While American whiskey is typically spelled with an “e,” the letter was dropped here to nod to the Scottish and Japanese traditions that inspired Beyoncé, a fan of Japanese whisky.

What is SirDavis whisky?

SirDavis is an American rye whiskey with a mash bill of 51 percent rye and 49 percent malted barley. The whiskey is distilled in Indiana, then finished, blended, and bottled in Houston, the city where Beyoncé grew up.

For production, master distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden, renowned for his work with Scottish brands Glenmorangie and Ardbeg, was brought on board. After its initial maturation, the whisky spends additional time in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and is bottled at 44 percent ABV.

The bottle itself is a tribute to Texas. The ridged glass design features a bronze horse emblem symbolizing strength and the state’s cowboy culture.

The end of the partnership with LVMH

With the sale, the two-year collaboration between Beyoncé and LVMH comes to an end. SirDavis was a distinctive project for Moët Hennessy, as it was the first brand the group developed entirely in-house within the United States rather than acquiring.

The brand will now continue as an independent company headquartered in Houston. That makes SirDavis fully owned by Beyoncé herself.
