It’s time for a new Ask Away. This week we’re putting the following question to our editors: Which whisky name truly impresses you? Read along!

Hessel

A whisky name that immediately springs to mind is Peatheart from AnCnoc. It’s a series of peated whiskies from the Knockdhu distillery. Between 2017 and 2023, three batches were released, all of which I find tasty and affordable.
Peatheart sounds almost romantic to me, just like the affection I have for peated whiskies. Not Peat’s Beast or Peat Monster, but Peatheart. ❤️

For me, it’s Toki from Suntory. Japanese is a language full of homonyms, which opens up many possible meanings. Even when a Chinese character is used, you can assign a different meaning by pronouncing it differently.
That’s exactly the case with this whisky, where the pronunciation “toki” means time. The Chinese character, however, is more commonly used to denote a season. In short, it’s a bottle with a very special name if you’re at home in the language.

Daan

Compass Box has the Hedonism whisky. A name that makes an impression and sparks curiosity. Hedonism stands for: The doctrine that sensual pleasure should guide human behavior and is the highest good (Van Dale). This whisky is a beautiful grain blend that’s released once or twice a year. So yes, time to indulge!

While I don’t necessarily have strong feelings about the brand itself, I’m definitely impressed by the name Writer’s Tears. As soon as you hear it, you think: There’s a story behind that. And there is. It all ties back to writer’s block. Do check it out, because… there’s always more.
What is your answer to this whisky question? Don't hesitate to share it with other whisky lovers and get the conversation going below this article. We are very curious about it too.
